Cuarenta y ocho kilómetros al oeste de Washington, D.C. y a 20 minutos del aeropuerto internacional Dulles de Washington se encuentra el extraordinario paisaje histórico y cultural conocido como Journey Through Hallowed Ground.

La ruta, un área de patrimonio nacional y camino escénico sinuoso que abarca 290 kilómetros desde Gettysburg, Pensilvania hasta Monticello, Virginia —salpicada de pueblos históricos, campos de batalla, mansiones de las plantaciones y parques nacionales— es más que un camino; este tramo es un pasaje a la historia de los Estados Unidos, en el rincón más memorable del país.

Hogar de líderes, eventos e ideas icónicas

Nueve presidentes han vivido a lo largo del camino Journey Through Hallowed Ground; entre ellos, John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower y Thomas Jefferson, cuyo hogar, Monticello, es la única residencia privada que ha sido declarada Patrimonio de la humanidad.

Las más grandes batallas de la Guerra Civil Estadounidense —Manassas, Gettysburg, Antietam, Appomattox y docenas de otras— ocurrieron en este camino apartado. Documentos transformacionales, como la Declaración de Independencia, la Proclamación de la Emancipación, el discurso de Gettysburg y el Plan Marshall fueron creados o inspirados por los acontecimientos que se produjeron a lo largo de esta importante ruta.

Ciudades vibrantes y una naturaleza de ensueño

Hoy en día, el camino Journey Through Hallowed Ground está lleno de centros históricos vibrantes, incluyendo Frederick, Hagerstown, Westminster y otros en Maryland; y Leesburg, Middleburg, Warrenton, Washington, Culpeper, Orange, Madison y Charlottesville en Virginia. Cada uno de ellos tiene su propio encanto y cultura única; abundan los restaurantes, cafés, museos, galerías, tiendas, hoteles íntimos y festivales.

Mientras tanto, el exuberante paisaje que rodea el camino apartado es un tapiz de huertos, granjas, viñedos y bodegas, atravesados por ríos prístinos y riachuelos de aguas cristalinas.
